The Youshiko YC9075 goes the other way and shows temperature big and bold, indoor and outdoor, with the day's high and low kept permanently on screen and reset automatically at midnight. There's no humidity, no barometer and no forecast — and for a lot of people that's exactly the point. It's the thermometer for a hallway, a nursery, a workshop or a greenhouse where you just want to see, instantly and from across the room, how warm or cold it is.

Its clever bit is the alarm. You can set an outdoor temperature threshold and the YC9075 will alert you the moment it's crossed — set it at freezing and it becomes a frost warning for the drive or the plants; set it to a greenhouse minimum and it tells you when the heater needs to come on. The weather-resistant wireless sensor is included and pairs automatically, and the whole thing runs on AAA cells with nothing to plug in. No — it's a temperature-focused thermometer by design. It shows bold indoor and outdoor temperature with a permanent min/max, and leaves out humidity, forecasts and clutter. If you want humidity too, the Youshiko YC9360 or a Raddy station would suit better.

What can the temperature alarm do?

You set an outdoor temperature threshold and it alerts you when that's reached. Set it at freezing for a frost warning, or at a minimum for a greenhouse so you know when to add heat. That settable alarm is the feature that lifts it above a plain thermometer.
