The WF-50V is for the spot where you rarely look at the screen straight on. Where a standard TN panel washes out when viewed from the side, this station uses a VA display that holds its contrast and colour off-axis — so on a desk you glance at sideways, a shelf above eye level or a hallway you pass at an angle, the indoor and outdoor temperature, humidity, forecast icon and min/max stay clear. Three brightness levels let you set it bright for a sunny office or dim it right down for a bedroom or landing.

The other change from the battery-only white WF-50T is how it's powered. The WF-50V takes USB-C, so plugged into any phone charger it runs continuously with the screen always on, while two AAA cells sit in reserve to hold the reading if the power drops. The wireless outdoor sensor still reaches up to 100 metres and refreshes every 30 seconds, giving the same accurate indoor/outdoor picture — just on a better-viewing, mains-friendly console, finished in black. What's a VA display and why does it matter?

A VA panel keeps its contrast and clarity when you look at it from an angle, unlike a basic TN screen that fades off-axis. It's the reason to choose this model for a desk, a high shelf or a hallway where you rarely see the screen head-on.

How is it powered?

By USB-C, so it runs continuously from any phone charger with the screen always on. Two AAA cells act as backup to keep the reading if the power is interrupted.

What's the difference from the WF-50T?

Same 5-inch size and readings. The WF-50T is white with a TN screen and runs on batteries only; this WF-50V is black with a wide-angle VA screen and USB-C power. Choose on finish, viewing angle and whether you want an always-on mains option.

How far can the sensor be from the display?

Up to 100 metres in the open, updating every 30 seconds. Thick walls and metal reduce that, so move the sensor closer or higher if the outdoor reading drops out.

The WF-50V is about a screen you can read from anywhere in the room, kept powered and accurate.

Put the angle to use

Site it where you usually see it off to one side — a desk, a high shelf, a hallway. The VA panel holds contrast off-axis, which is exactly where a cheaper screen would fade.

Keep it on USB-C

Run it from a USB-C adapter so the screen stays on and bright, and set one of the three brightness levels to suit the room. Leave the AAA cells in as backup for power cuts.

Shade the sensor

As with any station, keep the outdoor sensor out of direct sun and rain so the temperature and humidity — and the forecast built on them — stay accurate.
